About
Shellharbour's combat gym
Every discipline under one roof, every program built around you. From a mum wanting to lose weight to a kid learning self-defence, right up to world-title.
The gym
Box & Breathe is Shellharbour's holistic combat gym. Boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, kickboxing, strength and mobility, every discipline under one roof. A real combat gym in the Illawarra that takes a holistic approach to training the human being, every aspect, skill, body and mind.
Every program is built around the individual. Whether you are a mum wanting to lose weight, a kid learning self-defence, or a fighter chasing a title, we tailor the training to you and your goals. We run over 40 classes a week and everyone trains at their own level.
The coaching
The gym was founded by Daniel "Bogo" Bogolin, a second-generation boxer who grew up in the sport. Daniel and the team coach every level, from someone who has never thrown a punch to competitive fighters.
We do not just run you through a class. We sit down, work out what you want, and build a program tailored directly to you and your goals. Then we coach you toward them, session by session, wherever you want to go.
The champions
Daniel coaches champions. The gym has produced 8 state champions, including a jiu-jitsu champion, along with Masters World gold and silver, a Pan Pacific silver, more than 6 Golden Gloves winners, and a Queen of the Ring after only 6 fights.
The same coaching that takes a fighter to a title is the coaching behind a beginner's first program. Wherever you want to go, we have taken people there before.

Meet Dan
Dan didn't choose boxing. Boxing chose him. He's a second generation boxer. His father, John Bogolin, was a South Pacific champion who fought twice for Australian titles and beat Jeff Harding as an amateur, the same Jeff Harding who went on to become WBC light heavyweight world champion. John was a local legend in the Illawarra. A tough man from a tough era of the sport.
Dan grew up in boxing gyms. Literally. He started at three years old. While his dad trained, everyone in the gym would hold pads for the kid in the corner. By the time he could throw a proper jab, he already knew this was all he ever wanted to do.
He boxed competitively through his teens before signing a rugby league contract with the Sydney Roosters at 15. But boxing never left. Eventually he walked away from footy to pursue his lifelong passion. His boxing career was building serious momentum. Then a brachial plexus nerve injury in his shoulder ended everything.
What followed was the hardest period of his life. The identity he'd built since he was three years old was gone. He dealt with the kind of depression that comes when the thing that defines you gets taken away.
Then he found breathwork. A single breathwork session shifted something in him. Not in a dramatic, overnight way. But in the kind of way where you suddenly see a path you didn't see before. Boxing had saved him once as a kid. Breathwork was saving him again as an adult. And he realized the two things together could do the same for other people.
That's where the name comes from. Box and Breathe. It was never just a gym name. It was the answer to the question he'd been asking himself for years: what am I supposed to do now?
Dan has been coaching since he was a teenager. He's coached beginners who'd never thrown a punch, kids who needed structure, women who needed confidence, men who needed purpose, and fighters who've gone on to win titles. He's coached through every program Box & Breathe offers because he built every program from the ground up.
His coaching philosophy is simple: learn the fundamentals, then find what makes you unique. He doesn't believe in one-size-fits-all training. Every person who walks through the door has different gifts, different goals, and a different journey. His job is to figure out what yours is and help you get there.
Born and raised in Shellharbour. 25+ years in boxing. Building something that changes lives.
